Thirsty Thursdays

Tonight the younger 3 children enjoyed a babysitter other than their older sister, Megan, and they we were in heaven!! :) I served leftovers, so the babysitter didn't have to worry too much about dinner, but I sweetened the deal with an Orange Julius (at least I thought I was sweetened the deal)! They didn't turn out like I was hoping!

My Aunt Suzy used to work at Orange Julius when she was younger, and has created a recipe that she feels tastes just like the real thing :) My creation tonight did not taste like the real deal, and I think I know why:

1. I tried to double the recipe which didn't give enough room in the blender for the needed amount of ice.

2. I used an orange juice concentrate that has been in my freezer for ages (not sure exactly if that changes the taste), and it seemed really bitter (could be because we have been juicing our own oranges lately with Brian's handy dandy juicer, so it didn't taste fresh...the orange julius drinks we made a few weeks ago using fresh orange juice were wonderful!).

Recipe: Orange Julius (by Aunt Suzy)

1/2 can orange juice concentrate (6 oz.)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 T. powered sugar
1 cup milk
1 cup water
ice to fill blender

Blend all together until smooth. Can add frozen or fresh bananas, strawberries, or vanilla yogurt.

Critiques ~

Megan: "Interesting."
Zachary: "Mom, you can have mine if you want."
Anna: She didn't want it until I offered some whipped topping :)
Emily :) "...too bitter, needs a bit more sugar..." (after adding sugar) "the taste is still off, perhaps it's the orange juice concentrate?"

I hope your babysitter was good and did not eat you out of house and home! Thanks for feeding him.
I love your recipes and the darling pictures you take. I need you to help me out.
