Friday Favorites

This is a big family favorite! We like to experiment and change up the toppings, and it turns out great each time :)

Recipe: Pizza Braid (by Rhodes, but with my twist)

1 loaf Rhodes bread dough, thawed and risen (sometimes I will make my own pizza dough)
4 oz pepperoni slices, diced
1 T. fresh parsley, chopped
1 T. fresh basil, chopped
1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
2 T. flour
1 garlic clove, pressed
1 egg
2 T. grated fresh Parmesan cheese
corn meal

Preheat oven to 375. Spray board or counter with non-stick cooking spray. Roll dough into a 12 x 18 inch rectangle. Combine pepperoni, parsley, basil, mozzarella, flour, and garlic.
Visually divide the dough into 3 equal parts lengthwise. Spread the mixture down the center column. On the 2 outer columns cut 2-inch strips horizontally from filling to dough edges. Begin braid by folding top row toward filling. Then fold strips left over right, right over left. Fold bottom end towards filling and finish by pulling last strip and tucking under. Lift braid with both hands and place on baking sheet that has been sprinkled with corn meal. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, if desired. (FYI: I did not do this step today) Bake for 30 – 35 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with pizza sauce (the homemade pizza sauce recipe we use is posted with the pizza recipe). NOTE: you could also add olives, pineapple, sausage; whatever pizza toppings you normally like :)

This should give a better visual of the cutting and braiding process...

Out of the oven...

Yum! You are going to have to personally teach me the braid thing. I can never get it to work out. Thanks for sharing another great recipe!!
